Evaluation of the RCGP’s International Membership Examination

Client: Royal College of General Practitioners, UK
Timing: March 2014
Location: Desk Based Study

Capacity Development International were contracted by the Royal College of General Practitioners (RCGP) to evaluate their international membership examination programme MRCGP[INT] which currently accredits national examinations in 7 countries/regions – Brunei, Dubai, Egypt, Oman, Kuwait, Malta and South Asia.  The programme is designed to ensure that locally available and contextualised assessments have the same academic rigour as their equivalents in the UK.

CDI conducted a strategic business review of the programme in order to make recommendations for the future of the programme and its operational and financial frameworks.   The review involved interviewing clinical and management staff from RCGP as well as those involved in all 7 accredited overseas sites.  The review was conducted on a short time scale but CDI were still able to conduct semi-structured interviews with 37  informants and a short online survey was used to verify and quantify findings.
